Three months ago, a stretch of Sunset Boulevard was underwater after a 110-year-old water main ruptured.
The force of the water caused parts of Sunset to collapse, leaving behind a massive sinkhole. Cars were damaged, residents were displaced, and the busy roadway was closed for more than a week. About 17 million gallons of water rushed onto the streets.
Crews eventually repaired the broken pipe and reopened the road, but those repairs were only temporary.
Now, they are coming back to make them permanent
The work will include replacing asphalt, and the concrete pads where buses stop along Sunset Boulevard.
Construction is expected to last through Nov. 27, with lane closures and turn restrictions at different stages of the project. Officials say at least one lane will remain open in each direction during the repairs.
The first closure starts at 7 a.m. Monday with one westbound lane closed through Friday as crews work to replace a bus pad.
On Sunday, crews will shift to the eastbound side. Drivers who regularly take Sunset should expect some delays over the next few weeks.
