A seasonal corn maze in Dixon took a turn for the deadly serious on Friday night after two people were hospitalized with stab wounds. To reach the victims, Solan County deputies had to navigate Cool Patch Pumpkins' 40-acre attraction.
Per the Chronicle, the incident unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. The two victims were subsequently identified by authorities as a 19-year-old Dixon man and a 20-year-old Vallejo man. They also confirm that they have one suspect — a 28-year-old Sacramento man — in custody.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Solano County Sheriff’s Office categorized the stabbing as "an isolated incident" that they suggest may have arisen from an argument that escalated too far.
“Clearing the corn maze at night was quite the challenge, but we did it — and we did recover some evidence,” the spokesperson added.
Beyond recovering a knife at the scene, the spokesperson further shared that the was no update on the current condition of the victims but that an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
In comments provided to ABC7, Cool Patch Pumpkins’ operators confirmed that they plan to remain open for the rest of the season:
“The safety of our guests and employees is a priority. We are committed to providing a safe, family-friendly environment for everyone who visits Cool Patch Pumpkins and we look forward to serving our community for the remainder of our season.”
